NY Mag's 21 Questions with Genesis P-Orridge →
Best part: What makes someone a New Yorker?  Tolerance. A real New Yorker is always someone who came here from somewhere else to avoid some kind of persecution, often sexual-preference based, or to be discovered in one of the infinite, though no longer thriving, alternative scenes, i.e. theater, music, dance, vaudeville, art, drag, or in those of the greatest egos, to be “the next Andy Warhol.

Jeever Madness: On Re-Reading The Namesake →
jeevermadness: Living with a pet name and a good name, in a place where such distinctions do not exist—surely that was emblematic of the greatest confusion of all. (118) After re-reading this novel for the umpteenth time, I still feel deeply attached and personally indebted to this book. Even after… Rajiv, you are so good at writing.

One Song. One Take. One Cab. →
My cousin posted a video of Beach House performing in a rock on a beach and it sent me onto a mad hunt for all of the “musicians performing in an unusual or interesting situation” videos I’ve seen and I remembered the Black Cab Sessions! The Lykke Li one from a couple of years ago is good, didn’t see it on the main page but it’s definitely still on youtube.

From this article: “We either live together, or we die together,” was the sloganeering genius of Mohamed El-Sawy, a Muslim arts tycoon whose cultural centre distributed flyers at churches in Cairo Thursday night, and who has been credited with first floating the “human shield” idea. Among those shields were movie stars Adel Imam and Yousra, popular preacher Amr Khaled, the two sons of...

kellyzen: “The series of articles launched Wednesday are investigative journalism, not results of a clinical study. The writer, Brian Deer, said Wakefield “chiseled” the data before him, ‘falsifying medical histories of children and essentially concocting a picture, which was the picture he was contracted to find by lawyers hoping to sue vaccine manufacturers and to create a vaccine scare.’” ...
